Matte Negative Space Skittle with Zoya MatteVelvet Polishes [Nail Art]

So much for succinct titles.

These recently arrived on my doorstep stoop:

They are the Zoya MatteVelvets which have just been re-issued! (There is also a MatteVelvet Top Coat, which I was recently made aware of. I'm not sure if this is the top coat's debut, or if it's been out for a while. Anyway, it wasn't included with the press samples...probably because these polishes are already matte...lol.)

I haven't had time to do much nail art lately, but this collection really screams out for it, I think. I was tempted to do a matte/ glossy taping manicure, because these polishes are so perfect for that, but I'm also (like pretty much everyone else) nursing an obsession for negative space nails. So I thought I'd try it again.

The only other negative space design I've attempted was this heart/ galaxy manicure, but it just exposed the base polish color, and not the bare nail bed.

I do have on Nail Tek- Foundation II underneath, which is a ridge-filling base coat- something to consider using with mattes, since a matte finish tends to expose any tiny, existing unevenness. Foundation II also mattifies the natural nail, so it was very appropriate to use with these polishes!

I'm currently working on photographing swatches of these babies! Two that I'm particularly enjoying are new to me prior to Zoya re-issuing them. I'll let you guess which those are!

*Disclosure: polishes in this post were provided to me as press samples for honest review, and all opinions are my own.

  2. Yeah, sometimes succinct just doesn't work :/ Negative space manis do look so cool, and yours looks awesome! I can't wait to see your beautiful swatches :) I'm most excited about Domo-something or other and Harlow and I can't remember the names of the others, lol. I'm going to guess you're most excited about Domo-something or other and the purple.

  4. I'm happiest about Harlow and Loredana because I didn't own them before! Dovima and Savita (the purple) ARE really nice though! :D

  5. I love your manicure but I honestly can't warm up to these negative space manicures... Also, I'm not the biggest fan of mattes on myself, so I'm going to skip those but I would love if all Zoya bottles were frosted glass, I think that looks so pretty!

  6. I can't lie, I am totally getting into the negative space thing. :p And, yea I agree about the frosted bottles- it reminds me of sea glass, and they feel so luxurious!
