Today, I have two polishes from Essie's Summer 2013 Naughty Nautical collection.
These swatches are presented a little differently this time. I decided, in order to save a little time, to show these two polishes at once, on the same hand. Mostly, I had a strange compulsion to wear these two together!
Let me know what you think! I know I personally prefer seeing one polish at a time, in separate swatches, and that's what I'll continue doing in the future.

Essie- Naughty Nautical, the namesake of the collection, is a very green-toned, darker turquoise with subtle, sparse silver shimmer swimming throughout. (Alliteration, much??-ah!) You might also call it a teal.
The shimmer in these is interesting. It catches the light and looks sparkly, and yet is still pretty subtle at the same time! Overall, it makes the finish a little more intriguing than a plain creme.
Formula: It's on the thicker side, and fairly pigmented. It flows over the nail easily, but doesn't self-level quite as well as I'd like. Even so, this is a good formula, and was easy to apply and opaque in two coats.

Essie- The Girls Are Out is a warm-toned purple, almost a darker fuchsia pink. It has the same sparse, silver shimmer as Naughty Nautical. (I do apologize for the chip on the pinkie!)
This dries to a slightly more warm tone than the bottle color- not necessarily darker, just warmer.
Formula: The consistency is very nice: not too thick or thin, and seems to spread over the nail by itself. The second coat goes on so nicely, and was all I needed for an opaque application. One of the best Essie formulas I have encountered!
Artificial light, two coats each:

You can probably tell from the above photo that the shimmer in The Girls Are Out (what a stupid name!) is much more visible. I think Naughty Nautical's shimmer sinks into the base a little.

You can see the shimmer in both polishes most of the time, though. It's not obnoxious, but more of an element that adds subtle interest.
Of the two of these, The Girls Are Out is the most unique and flattering color, I think. It also has the better formula, and the shimmer is more apparent!
The Girls Are Out is AWESOME! I soooo need that :)
ReplyI was on the fence, but very glad I got it!
I think those look great together! I love the shimmer in both. I'm not a big essie fan, but this collection made me buy the mini set :)
ReplyI kind of love Essie, if just for the packaging. Lately their formulas have been getting much better, though!
Very pretty! Good to see that the shimmer translates from the bottle better than a lot of polishes.
ReplyYes, I was most pleased about that!
I'm a fan of Essie's formulas (I know, I'm an anomaly!) and these two are my favourites from the new collection. I really like the subtle shimmer.
ReplyThe new formulas mostly rock!
