Hey guys! I thought I'd kick off November with my picks from Orly's Fall offering called "Smoky." I remember being really excited when I originally saw the promo images for this collection, so let's take a look!
Oh yes, and I do apologize for the nail shape inconsistencies! I know they have been all over the place recently, but I swatched these polishes quite a while ago. I'm trying to get through my backlog of already photographed polishes, so hopefully after I'm caught up the nail shape will be more consistent in swatches. I'm not even sure if that bothers most people...but it irks me...LOL!
First, here's Orly- Edgy:

Edgy is a bit hard to describe. It's a green-tinged bronze glassfleck metallic, but the actual particles vary from yellowish to patinaed, grungy bronze.
Artificial light, two coats:

Window-filtered daylight:

Outside, shade:

I like it! This one was fun to wear.
Sun:

Formula: It's on the sheer side, and the consistency is also thinnish. It paints on relatively well, but might drag if you really, really overwork it. That said, I had no real trouble, and a thicker second coat had this fairly opaque for me.
--
Next, Orly- Smoked Out:

Smoked Out is a deep teal base filled with green glassfleck shimmer. The base deepens a lot after the second coat, so that the polish looks blackened around the edges.
Artificial light, two coats:

Okay, this is flipping gorgeous. Do you like blue-greens? Do you like glassfleck shimmer? Do you like moody, blackened polishes? Yep, you need this.
Window-filtered daylight:

Outside, shade:

Sun:

Formula: It's a little more on the thin side than I prefer, but isn't hard to control. Like Edgy, I can tell that the first coat wants to drag a little bit, so I was careful not to overwork it. The second coat goes on much more smoothly, and is opaque! This does dry to a satin finish, so top coat is important to bring out the shimmer.
--
Last, here's Orly- Brush It On:

Brush It On is a glassfleck multichrome shimmer in a sheer, almost-clear base. The particles shift from coppery orange to pink/red, and sometimes can show hints of yellow and light green.
Artificial light, six coats:

Window-filtered daylight:

Outside, shade:

over OPI- My Vampire Is Buff (middle & pointer)
over Zoya- Ryan (pinkie & ring)

Formula: It is, as reported by many others, very sheer. I do wish the particles were denser within the base. But, it goes on easily with no problems, and dries down quickly. I used six coats for some semblance of opacity for ~science~, but this is a polish clearly meant for layering.
--
Overall, I'm really impressed with these three! The formulas were on the sheerer side, but still nice (as long as you don't try to build up Brush It On like I did). I really like the finishes of these. They are all so shiny, have great depth, and are clearly Fall-inspired without being boring. Nothing much else to say!
What do you think?
Have you picked up any from this set?
Oh my god! These are beautiful. ORLY Y U SO HARD TO GET IN AUSTRALIA? I am crying
Replyoooh these are beautiful, my favorite is the last one, I'm a sucker for all things duochrome-y :) I didn't notice your nails were different, I'm always distracted by the pretty colors on them lol
ReplyWhen these first came out I wasn't sure if I needed Smoked Out, but now...uh...*cough*...
ReplyAll three of them are pretty!
ReplySmoked out- I MUST HAVE IT! Edgy looks similar to Urban Decay's 'Addiction' in my opinion
ReplyI've already worn Smoked Out a few times, it's quite literally gorgeous. Your swatches are the first I've seen that really do the polish justice!!!
ReplyAw. Oh no! I hate that! To be fair Australia has SO MANY GOOD INDIES it's hard to get over here! :)
ReplyYou're right, the naming is sorta weird! And, thank you!
ReplyLOL! I don't think you'll regret it!
ReplyHaha, yes pretty colors! I love duochromey things too!
