Butter London- Petrol is aptly named: a shifty, metallic duochrome that resembles a reflective oil spill. It shifts mostly from aqua-teal to indigo-violet at the edges of the nails.

It's meant as an overcoat or topper, although I know some people have been able to build it up to opacity on its own by three coats. Today I'll be showing it over a purple-leaning medium gray, Barielle- One Shade Of Gray.

I do think this looks really lovely in photos, but I was so underwhelmed in person. I have a lot of multichromes in this color range that are much shiftier, so I don't think Petrol is that special- just nice. I admit I just got sucked into all the hype with this one!
Sun:

It does have an awesome, foily blue sparkle in the sun.
Formula: It's on the medium-thin side, but is easy to control and glides over the nail easily. Depending on your base color (or if you use one) one layer might be just fine. I opted for two, and I think that's the sweet spot for layering over a darker color. Nice formula- no complaints!
Wow, this is prettier than I would have guessed. I'm so used to seeing duochromes that look really flat on the nail that it's a big surprise when they actually look nice!
ReplyI honestly think the shift in this is more noticeable in photos for some reason...
I'm not normally a fan of multichromes, but this is quite lovely!
ReplyThanks!
I like this on you more than I thought I would, I didn't pay it any mind when it came out..
ReplyI hemmed and hawed over getting it for a long time. It's nice, I think, but not spectacular.
This is so pretty! I was really debating it during the Friends and Family sale and now I wish I had pulled the trigger! Thanks for making my wishlist just a little longer ;)
ReplyHaha, no problem. :)
