Left to Right: You Only Live Twice, The Living Daylights, Live And Let Die, The World Is Not Enough
Today I have my picks from OPI's Winter 2012, James Bond-themed, Skyfall Collection.
First up: OPI- The World Is Not Enough:

The World Is Not Enough is a warm, metallic, silvery taupe shimmer/ glassfleck polish with flashes of pink and bronze. It's a very unique color, and almost has a multichrome effect, depending on the lighting situation. This is not a polish to pass over!
Artificial light, three coats:

Window-filtered daylight:

Outside, shade:

The red you see on the ring finger nail is reflected from my shirt- this polish is super shiny and reflective, and very pretty in real life!

Sun:

Formula: It needs three coats for opacity (as I find a lot of similar glassfleck finishes do) but is a nice formula otherwise. Easy to work with. You could probably layer it over a similarly-toned color too, if you wanted to.

Next is OPI- Live And Let Die:

Live And Let Die is a teal-leaning dark green base containing yellow-gold shimmer.
Artificial light, two coats:

The shimmer is very apparent in the bottle, but not so obvious on the nail, although still noticeable. It's not a 'secret shimmer' polish, but it's definitely not in your face either.
Window-filtered daylight:

Outside, shade:

Sun:

The shimmer does, predictably, show up more in the sunlight.

I think it's a nice Fall/Winter color.
Formula: Thick, but easy to work with, covers in two coats. Self-levels well.

Next, probably the most talked-about of the Skyfall collection, is OPI- The Living Daylights:

The Living Daylights is a clear base full of medium hexagonal glitter in three colors: silver, aqua/ teal, and orange. It's an interesting color combination- very Miami Dolphins.
Artificial light, The Living Daylights sponged over Live And Let Die:

I didn't do a full manicure for swatches because I think this one is meant as a layering polish.
Outside, shade:

Up close:

Formula: Typical chunky glitter-in-a-suspension-base formula.
I almost didn't commit to this polish because I'd seen a swatch showing the glitter curling at the edges, which to me, is sort of egregious for a major brand to allow to come to market. I wanted to see in real life, though, so I gave The Living Daylights a shot.
Unfortunately, I think it does curl just a bit, as you can see in the above photo. It's not terrible, but it does make it more difficult to wear, and you need more coats of topcoat to smooth it out. I would absolutely love this polish if the hexies laid flat, but alas.

Lastly, and my favorite that I tried, is OPI- You Only Live Twice:

You Only Live Twice is a gorgeous cool-toned, berry pink-leaning, red glassfleck/ shimmer. This one is very Holiday appropriate, but still wearable throughout the year.
Artificial light, three coats:

Window-filtered daylight:

Here it seems like there are even some golden-orange glassfleck particles!
Outside, partial shade:

If you have cool-toned or very pale skin, this polish will be amazingly suited to your coloring!

I absolutely love this one, and am definitely keeping it forever!
Formula: Was on the thinner side, with a bit of VNL after two coats, needing three for opacity. It was easy to work with though- and completely worth it, as the color is so saturated.
What are/were your favorite Skyfall polishes?
At the moment I'm wearing Skyfall and GoldenEye, but my favorites are The World Is Not Enough and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
ReplyOn Her Majesty's Secret Service looks beautiful, but I had Zoya's Fei Fei, and I think they're pretty close, so I passed on that one. The World Is Not Enough is a special polish!
I can't say it enough...your photos are PERFECT!
ReplyAw, thank you! It's kinda disassociating seeing your own hand over and over and over, so it's great to get some outside perspective, lol.
Hmmmm... I really like the last one. I'm kind of ifffy on this collection. I'm so glad to know about the glitters curling up. I don't like that either.
ReplyI was kinda iffy too! I think the glassfleck finishes are especially nice though- the other two I could have (should have?) skipped.
